Things to Consider When Buying Professional Capture Cards

Professional capture cards can add more capability to your livestreaming and recording equipment and simply make your life a lot easier when you’re streaming or recording an event. They come with different capabilities and are easy to use, which is good since many houses of worship use volunteers to operate their recording and livestreaming equipment. If you are considering purchasing a capture card, you’ll need to know what features you need ahead of time, as this makes it much easier to get the right one in the end.

Below are a few considerations for making sure you get a capture card that meets your needs.

Most houses of worship have a budget, so this always has to be considered before you decide which capture card to buy. Most capture cards range in price from around $300 to roughly $900, so they aren’t that expensive. The main thing to remember is to make sure it has the features you need to accommodate what you’re going to do with it after you purchase it.

Resolutions Captured

Most capture cards capture resolutions up to 1920×1200 at 60 frames per second (FPS), but you’ll want to review those numbers before deciding which capture card to buy. Many houses of worship need typical resolutions, while others might want higher resolutions that are better in quality. If you don’t need the absolute best or highest numbers, you can save yourself some money and choose one that is lower in price.

Ease of Use

Today, most capture cards can be connected via a USB port, which means you can set yours up and be using it in no time. Most of them also have several outputs so that you can connect them several ways, but all of them are super easy to use even if you’re not exactly the most tech-savvy person in the world. This is a great trait to have because, with houses of worship, you never know who is going to be operating the equipment for a particular event.

Some people think that capture cards don’t have warranties, but this is incorrect. The companies that make capture cards usually give you a warranty of one year or longer, and even though some of those warranties are shorter than that and some are limited, you can still check out the warranties on their websites so that you can get the details you need. You should also make sure you check out the condition of the capture card right when you get it so that the warranty isn’t invalidated.
